Q.
Are herbs safe during Pregnancy? What herbs are unsafe?
A.
Nature offers an abundance of safe & beneficial herbs that have been used throughout the ages to help common symptoms and discomforts that arise during pregnancy. Some may be used at specific times, while others can be used safely through all trimesters to ease, aid and tone the tissue, and help facilitate birth itself. Our Mom To Be Tea contains two of the most valuable herbs for pregnancy – Red Raspberry Leaf and Nettle. These herbs tone the uterus and provide nutritive support to mom throughout her pregnancy.
There are however, some herbs that should be avoided during pregnancy. These herbs, known as Emmenagougues, can stimulate uterine contractions. The most common of these are: Golden Seal, Pennyroyal, Rue, Sage, Tansy and Wormwood. While these may not always act as abortifacients, it is best to avoid them during pregnancy.
