Red Clover

Common Name: Red Clover Blossom

Latin Name: Trifolium pratense

Description:  One of my favourite understated herbs – Red clove is prolific in our fields and beloved by herbalists, farmers and environmentalists alike.

Found in our fields and meadows it provides nectar for honeybees and other pollinators.  Farmers grow it as food for livestock and Environmentalists appreciate it as it prevents roadside erosion.  Medicinally Red Clover is a go-to alterative for over health and well being. Highly nutritious, it is high in beta-carotene, calcium, vitamin C and a whole spectrum of vitamin B and trace minerals. At Matter, we especially love it for its benefits as a lymphatic cleanser – especially for skin problems.  It is a favourite herb for treating childhood skin issues like eczema and psoriasis, as well as childhood respiratory infections.

Red Clover is also revered for its support for menopausal women.  The flower and leaves contain phytoestrogens which help balance symptoms of hot flashes and mood swings and bone density.  Some studies have also shown red clover to also help with cancer treatments due to its anti-tumour compounds.

Overall Red clover is a safe, delicious, nutritive and tonic tea. Incorporated into our daily lives offers many benefits to our overall health and wellness.
