with Lavender, Comfrey, & Rosemary
A herbal sitz bath made with lavender, comfrey, and rosemary, recommended by midwives and OBs to support recovery after birth.
This blend uses the principles of hydrotherapy and postpartum sitz bath herbs to promote comfort, soothe irritation, and ease perineal discomfort. Our therapeutic infusion of botanicals offers a time-honoured way to care for mom’s body in the days following labour.
calendula officinalis* (pot marigold), symphytum officinale* (comfrey) leaf, lavandula angustifolia* (lavender) flowers, rosmarinus officinalis* (rosemary) leaf, rosa canina* (rose) petals, achillea millefolium* (yarrow) flower
*certified organic
Method: Steep 1/3 of the herbs in 2 litres of boiled water for fifteen minutes. Strain and pour into a shallow basin. Immerse yourself in the infusion. Repeat as needed.
Comfrey: Demulcent; soothing to irritated skin; astringent; supports wound healing and recovery, thanks to the active compound allantoin.
Lavender Flower: Soothing, skin tonic; anti-bacterial; healing and calming, commonly used in sitz baths for hemorrhoids and postpartum relief.
Rose Petals: Emollient, anti-inflammatory, and comforting to tender areas.
Rosemary Herb: Anti-spasmodic and a circulatory stimulant; helps relieve muscle pain and offers antimicrobial and astringent properties.
Yarrow Flowers: Astringent and traditionally used for varicose veins, hemorrhoids, and soothing postpartum discomfort.
Q.
What are Sitz baths?
A.
Sitz baths can be purchased from hospitals and are often available in the form of a small plastic basin that sits atop the toilet and should be filled with warm water. The principle of Sitz baths is based on hydrotherapy, whereby the warmth of the water promotes circulation in the pelvic area, thereby speeding up the healing process. A woman is recommended to sit in the basin for up to fifteen minutes or when the water becomes cool. Sitz baths are recommended immediately following delivery to soothe perineal tears, soreness, sometimes experienced as burning sensations.
Q.
What are Sitz baths used for?
A.
Besides soothing perineum tears and soreness after delivery, sitz baths are beneficial in eliminating hemorrhoids and for soothing symptoms associated with bladder or yeast infections.
Q.
How often can sitz baths be taken?
A.
Sitz baths can be taken as a weekly tonic treatment or used more frequently as part of a more rigorous health program.
- Can be used for pre- or postnatal irritation, including yeast infections, hemorrhoids, or perineal tearing
- Features healing herbs like calendula, comfrey, and yarrow flowers to support postpartum recovery
- Recommended by midwives as part of a birthing kit for essential postnatal care
A very comforting experience during the healing process
